1 Star Defective hardware
Beware, the online reports of the instruments working fine, and then getting worse to the point that they don’t work at all eventually are true. My guitar was perfect, then the second week it stopped working entirely.
Activision’s repair policy is terrible also. They won’t even shell out a few bucks to ship their defective merchandise back to them.
Go with Rock Band 2: not only is the game better, but if you have a problem with the equipment EA is gracious and will replace it in a much more respectable fashion.
2 Stars Great Game – Lame Controller
I received the guitar/game set at launch and after a week of playing, the guitar stopped registering down strokes. Amazon took it back and sent me a new set. The new guitar works okay, but squeaks really bad and doesn’t have a tactile click when down stroked. Up strokes, on the other hand register every time and have a nice click sound. I might have to send this one back as well.
The game is a lot of fun, though tedious at times. Big thumbs up for the inclusion of NoFX.
4 Stars Not bad….but no Rock Band
This review is for the Guitar/Game combo of Guitar Hero World Tour. Without getting into all the fanboy arguments about which came first, who owns who, and which game is ripping off the other; Guitar Hero World Tour is just not as good as Rock Band. Graphically it’s better in that the characters are brighter, clearer, etc…though they still remain oddly cartoony. It’s almost creepy when you see Jimi Hendrix because he looks so real yet animated at the same time. It’s weird. As far as gameplay goes (and this is again only for the guitar aspect of it) it’s definitely easier than Rock Band 2. More on par with Rock Band 1. I walked through it on expert without failing any songs up until the last set. To me that’s not a bad thing since songs that are annoyingly difficult are absolutely no fun to play. The new guitar is pretty cool too. The touch pad way down on the neck makes solos INFINITELY easier to play – when applicable. And I have never had any trouble with my guitar being faulty (ie failing out of a song before it starts like some people claim). The biggest knock against this game is the song selection. First of all, a bunch of the songs are straight from Rock Band 2. And I’m not saying it’s a game of copying, it’s just that Rock Band got to the market first and it just looks bad when you have the exact same songs. The song selection overall is not as fun as Rock Band 2 either. But that’s just personal preference. I gave the game 4 stars because it’s really not a bad game at all, I just think that the song selection, note charts, and presentation of Rock Band 2 is better. But if you’ve played Guitar Hero and really liked it, there’s no reason not to pick this one up. I just haven’t played it since I beat it…and I’m still playing Rock Band 2 almost nightly.
3 Stars A step forward, but many steps backwards.
I’ve played guitar hero ever since it first came out. For those who have enjoyed Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero II, and Guitar Hero III, this game does not even compare. III was by far the best game in the series. Although World Tour adds some interesting mechanics (such as the neck slider, open bass notes, tapping notes connected by purple lines, the ability to create your own music, etc) I felt as though they tried to improve the mechanics by sacrificing the music. Obviously the key component to this game. The song selection is eh… it lacks the epicness and intensity of III, which brings its fun factor way down. It may be my hardcore guitar hero side talking here, but there were just no fun songs for me. It might be fun for beginners, trying to rock out together, but for the person who wants a challenge and is looking for something to master, this game does not fit that at all. I beat this game in one go on expert, the songs were too easy, the battles were too easy, and the last set of songs was too easy. Even the Dream Theater song, although pretty epic, could have been in the 4th set list for III. Ugh. Don’t waste your money on this game.
I give this three stars, and it doesn’t deserve more than that. Just because it was kind of fun going through one time. The DLC also stinks so far.
2 Stars Great Game – Horrible/Faulty Guitar Controller
I’m generally a pretty forgiving person when it comes to electronics and their idiosyncrasies but this bundle is absolutely horrible. I took the guitar controller out of the packaging and failed out almost immediately as the downward strum simply failed to register 90% of the time. The game is quite enjoyable using my Guitar Hero III guitar. There are some serious quality control issues that Red Octane needs to address. Their customer service is terrible when it comes to defective hardware but thank goodness for Amazon.com and their easy return process. I recommend this game but stay away from the guitar controller for now.

3 Stars WraptorSkinz for Nintendo Wii Les Paul Guitar
This is a very nice set of vinyl stickers. There are some places where the manufacturing process could be improved however.
1. The backing should be cut into segments to permit one portion of the sticker to be aligned and placed.
2. The adhesive should be modified so it sets up over time, thus allowing the sticker to be moved to the ideal location.
The colors are very vibrant and detailed. There is no pixelation or dull spots anywhere to be found. The material seems very resistant to abrasion, it is very smooth. Otherwise, this would be a 5 star product.

3 Stars Several design flaws, but otherwise functional
Okay, so this is a microphone stand. Plain and simple. The clips to hold controller are very useful, and the clip actually holds some older video game USB microphones, unlike other mic stands. The stand is made of plastic with mostly plastic connnections, which means that you can’t get the adjustable parts as tight as you’d like. The main adjuster requires two hands on the lower part of the stand to tighten adequately, so if you go the wrong way, the mic will slide down and you’ll have to reposition. If you want to hold the mic while you sing on the stand, it may slide down even when fully tightened. Also, the screw on the mic clip is loose, so expect to tighten it before you play with a Phillips head screwdriver. The clip is removable, so you could put it on a real mic stand if this one ever breaks. The major design flaw is that the controller clip for Xbox 360 does not let you hook up a plug and play charger to it while it’s clipped on. So while I’d have loved to use this time to charge my batteries, I can’t.
To sum it up: It’s a cheap plastic stand with tightening issues, a great clip design for holding the microphone, and a controller clip that won’t let you charge an Xbox 360 controller. If you can live with the above-stated problems, then you should be fine. I am satisfied, considering.
3 Stars It is ok, but…
The microphone stand is OK but for only one microphone. It comes with 3 clip holders but each one is for a different brand (Wii, PS3, Xbox). What if you would like to hold 2 PS3 controllers in the same stand? Sorry that is not possible. I wish you can choose or order the clip holders that you need.
4 Stars Great stand for the money, but no source for more clips.
What you see is what you get…and that’s all. The spring loaded microphone stand is decent and the microphone clip is very nice. I love the ability to hang your wireless controllers on the stand and even use one of the extra controller clips to hang my guitar (by the strap). I have one major complaint which keeps this product from rating five stars: nobody sells additional controller clips. You receive three clips, one for each major console system (xbox 360, PS3 and wii). If you’re like me and only want one microphone stand, but would like to hang all your controllers on it, you’re out of luck.
So if anyone here purchases this stand and doesn’t have an xbox, I’d love to trade off my extra PS3/wii clips for your xbox clip. You can contact me at “gaines[at]kergosien[dot]net”.
4 Stars Standerd mic stand. You get what you see
This is just what it said and is just what it gets. Ok, now for the bad. The shipping was on time but horrible. It came in a box three times its size and the box was opened, battered, and looked like it has been through nuclear fallout although, the actual product was intact and in its original packaging. The plastic things that hold the controllers are flimsy and break too easily. I managed to break my controller holders on day two of having this product. All in all, it is not a bad product, sturdy, metal, and a heck of a lot of fun to play with. Madcatz just need to iron out the little things.
